Local Water Done Well (LWDW)

  • Tuesday 15th April – Briefing : High level update on Local Water Done Well Submissions – Council Chambers, 11.30am. Note public can attend but there are no speaking opportunities at briefings. If you can’t make it in person you can watch it on Livestream
  • Thursday 1st May – Submissions hearing: LWDW – Council Chambers, 9.30-12.30
  • Tuesday 27th May – Additional Council Meeting to make decision on LWDW – Council Chambers, 9.30am

Whether you have, or haven’t made a submission, you can still influence Councillor’s voting by engaging directly with them and we would encourage you to do that.

You can view our submission below:

Below you will find a copy of the presentation given to our public meeting on the 8th April and our request to Council for an extension to the consultation period.

To summarise:

  • We question whether we/you are actually in a position to make an informed assessment
  • We think more information is needed before adequate consideration of the options is possible
  • We still have questions that have not been fully answered
  • Community confidence in council decision-making is not high and neither is Council performance and we do not think this has been an affective, open or transparent consultation process
  • We have formally requested an extension to the deadline for public consultation (currently ending on the 13th April) which KCDC has the discretion to do – see below. Note: a response was received from the Mayor on the 7th April – she was happy with the consultation process and information available but advised she will pass on the request to the Chief Executive for his advice. As at 9th April we are awaiting further a response.

In Conclusion:

  • If you are making your submission on the current 2 options and would like some guidance (for those who have not done this before) please see our suggestions on page 27 of the presentation below.
  • If you would like to make a submission with further requests as outlined in our presentation please feel free to use our information
  • If you would like to support us in requesting an extension to the consultation period please email your request direct to Council or include it with your submission

3rd April 2025 – UPDATE

At our last public meeting, we invited the Council to provide clarity. Despite assurances from the GM of Infrastructure & Asset Management that our outstanding questions would be answered—they weren’t. Attempts to follow up? Brick wall. 🚧

But we didn’t stop there! We’ve gathered key insights from other sources, and we’re ready to share them with you. Let’s break it down together and navigate the submission process.

For further clarity below is the Morrison Low Report, updated February 2025
A Report commissioned by the four Councils which gives a bit more detail into ‘THE FOUR” option

The Kapiti Coast District Council plans to consult on our water supply, what we do with wastewater and managing stormwater from 10 March-13 April.

You can find the consultation document below.

We have some big questions that the consultation document does not answer including how an increase in water rates might be offset by a reduction in the general rate.

We talked with the Council on 6 March to raise our concerns about the process it’s using (see presentation below).

We have asked for more detail so our feedback can be based on more detailed information.

We will share what we’ve found out at a public meeting on Sunday 16th March at 3pm (Waikanae Community Centre, 28-32 Utauta St, Waikanae), and we will support you to make submissions alongside of ours.
