An almost full house – ratepayers turn up for change

Over 80 passionate and concerned residents packed the Waikanae venue on a beautiful Sunday afternoon β€” proof that our community is ready to take a stand.

Our presentation sparked real engagement, along with some shock and disbelief as we laid out the hard facts about where your rates are going. Those who attended were appreciative and a good indication that our community is ready for transparency, accountability, and a new direction.

We had a lot more to share with you, but we felt it would have been information overload to present it all at once, so, we are currently looking at holding another public meeting on the 3rd August and will share details of that shortly.

We also heard briefly from several candidates we believe represent the kind of leadership Kapiti needs. Speaking under the β€œWe Love Kapiti” banner were Joanne Welch, Chris Harwood, and Dean Harris, along with Bede Laracy, running as an independent for the Raumati-Paekakariki Ward. We also acknowledged the tireless work of Councillor Glen Cooper, standing again as an independent for Paraparaumu.

These are just the candidates we have identified so far – if you, or anyone you know is intending to run for Council and you think you/they align with us we would love to hear from you.

  1. My rates have doubled in the past six years, and will definitely double again within the next six years. Don’t be fooled by Council rates increases of 6.9%, (which is nearly 2.5 times OCR anyway). The 6.9% figure is an average across the District, it is not reality. If you want to know your real rates for 2025/26, check out KCDC rates online.

Make sure you’re sitting down when you check your next years rates.
